Tis the Season...

Tis the Season all right...tis the season for crazy shopping malls, busy streets, loud and obnoxous prople, and "Holiday Cheer". Tis also the season for robbery...apparently. A few days before Christmas...my uncles house was broken into and robbed. They stole the T.V., some computer stuff, his daughter's money (they were saving for a holiday), his gun...and a bunch of gifts that were under the tree, along with some other miscilanous stuff...Merry Fuckin' Christmas...huh? What ever happened to the spirit of brotherly or sisterly love? When did Christmas become such a commersialized halmark holiday? I am sorry if this blog offends anyone or crushes your Christmas spirit...that is why I waited till after the actual holiday to post this...but it has to be said...We are all in it for the gifts...We may say that we don't want anything, or are more intrested in what we give than receive...but deep down there is a satisfaction in the greed of "wanting". Christmas is a time of joy and happiness...why does it take a holiday for us to be kind to one another? I saw on the news that on Christmas Eve eve...(the night before christmas eve) Edmonton had it's 37th murder. Why do we feel we need an excuse to give gifts to the people we love? All of our holidays are turning into a huge deal...and we have to "get" something for every little occasion...most people don't even remember the real meaning behind Christmas, or Easter, or Valentines Day. I know not everyone is religious, and believes in "Christ" or "The Bible", or even "God" for that matter (I happen to be one of those non-believers)...but there is more to these Holidays than just some old religious hoowey. We need to get back to our roots...find the true meaning of Christmas...and stop needing excuses for everything we do... For example..."New Years Resolutions". We wait for the new year to promise ourselves that we are going to get healthy, exercise more, stop smoking, or whatever...we all know we are going to break our resolutions...so why do we even bother making them? If we don't have the will power anyother time of the year...why would New Years be any different?

Ok...I think I'm done ranting now...*takes a deep breath to calm herself*...Ok...I am going to be starting a new blog...explicitly for my new story...I'll let you all know when and such...In the mean time...Happy Holidays...(pretty ironic me saying that after my rant huh?) Have a "Vin"-tastic New Year!

Unfortunately you can't change people, they have to change for themselves. On boxing day a fist fight broke out in a shopping mall somewhere in Edmonton. It's really sad that we fight over clothing and electronics.

Learn to laugh at yourself and everything will be a brighter place...

I agree with you, Melanie... almost. I agree that Christmas has gotten too commercialized, that's quite obvious. And, I'm sorry if I offend you, but I just really have to say it. The holidays are not just about a bunch of religious "hooey", as you called it. If you really talk about the reasons for the holidays and getting back to the true meaning of them... isn't the real reason for a few of the most celebrated holidays religious? Christmas is there to celebrate the birth of Christ. Easter is there to celebrate Christ being raised from the dead. Those are the real reasons for those holidays. I have more to say, and will elaborate later, but I gotta go to work.

I know it is not "religious Hooey", I know the real meanings behind the holidays...I just don't believe in "God" or "Christ" if you will...I have my own beliefs. I do believe that there is something out there just not christianity...You didn't offend me...and I hope that I didn't offend you...I accept that you have different beliefes than I do...and when I said getting back to the roots of the holidays I meant more along the lines of "Tis better to give than to receive" to get away from all of the greed...and comersialismness...have a home made christmas...that sort of stuff... Not needing to get big expencive presents for easter and Valentines day...I appologize for saying that hooey bit...I was caught up in a rant...*shrug*...I didn't mean it like that...

-_- That's a shame about your uncle mel, it's stupid what people do for possessions. As for the better to give, that would be me, but like most people it's not worth going and getting into fights and murders over them. It's amazing to see how apreciative some people are over the smallest stuff, wrapped up.

But you are right a lot of people forgotten that the season is to spend time with family, not fight with them...To decorate and brighten the darkest time of the year to look forwards to the year ahead. Yule was forever regarded to be a time of renewal, but it is hard to change human nature. Everything needs baby steps *see my blog for longer rantings* hehehe

Nice word, Mel... comercialismness. I love it. :P I do understand what your saying, I don't like it, either. I'm not what most would define a Christian, but you know, I find that many people have the wrong idea about Christians a lot of times because there are many parading around as "Christians" who really aren't. But I've grown up in a house and family with Christian beliefs, and that's what I've always believed and what feels "right" to me. It is unfortunate that nearly every holiday is so commercialized that you "have" to buy someone something, and it's all about getting stuff. Sure, everyone likes getting presents, and I won't deny that I'm one of them, but I also love giving, too. It makes me so happy to give people things, and of course, the best part of Christmas is getting together and being with your family. My favorite thing is Christmas Eve, when just my family gets together, and we each open one present, and then spend the rest of the night watching The Muppet Christmas Carol and playing board games, and just having a good time. And the best thing about opening stockings is not what's inside, but waking up early with my brothers and sitting in one of their rooms and giggling ang laughing and eating chocolate until we just about get sick. And I love family gatherings, going over to someone's house and doing our gift exchange game and just hanging out with everyone that you don't see every day. I love it. The unfortunate thing is the big corporations are only trying to profit off of the holidays and make you feel bad for not blowing all of your money, and sadly, I don't think it's ever going to change. You know what? Maybe it's not the best or most productive thing to do, but I'm pretty sure that every human being knows how commercialized it is. I'm definitely not the most worldly person around, so if I can figure it out, so can pretty much everyone else. I'm happy with the way that my holiday is, and I'm not going to try to change it because it's too commercialized or not commercialized enough. Let everyone else do what they want to do. I like my Christmas the way it is.

I hope you had a Merry Christmas, and I wish all the best for you in 2007. It is a shame that your Uncle's home got broken into right before the holidays.
