"B-but...you're dead...you d-died when I was five..." I managed to stutter.

"I had to make you think I died, dear daughter. I have been watching your progress from afar...and you have made me proud. You have become an ultimate killing machine...all because you saw me die."

I sat stunned, running over the faithful day in my head. He had been shot...right in front of me... I watched him die...and I had been the one to avenge his death. My first kill. So full of rage and hate for my fathers killer. It consumed my mind and shaped my future.

"But, how?"

"Ahh that is something I will reveal when you are ready to hear it." He smiled sweetly, just the way he did to me when I did something good when I was small. "But for now you are holding some information that I want. Are you going to hold it away from your dear old father?"

I had the feeling of utter betrayal. Why should I have any loyalty to a man that left me all alone after all those years. And in the end not tell me anything anyways of his reasons. In my mind I retreated back to that dark little corner. "Go to hell." I looked at him with dead eyes, "Father."

"Tisk, tisk...Is that any way to speak to your long lost father?" He asked, more to his "boys" than me. They all chuckled and shook their heads. He looked at the big man on his left and nodded once. The man left the room and came back pushing a TV on a little cart.

"Now remember daughter, you have brought this upon yourself. To make it stop all you must do is tell me what I need to know." During his little speach to me he walked around the back of my chair, grabbed my chin and twisted my head back to look at him.

"Play it." He said, and the big guy flicked the TV on. He crouched behind my chair and held my face forward at the TV. It took me a few seconds to focus on what was happening on the TV.

It was a room like the one I was in, bare cement with a chair. In the chair was Cole. There were two men in the room with him, one was beating him with what looked like a whip, the other did nothing, for the moment.

I watched as the sweet man that took me out for dinner what seemed forever ago get reduced to tears as the whip cut into his flesh. Even though there was no sound the silent screams tore at my soul, but I wasn't going to give. Unfortunatly for Cole what my father wanted was more valuable than his life. More valuable than my own. In the end I wanted to look away but I knew that things would get worse if I did. So with unseeing eyes I watched as the second man pulled a tanser gun out from a holtser on his belt.

Silent tears streamed down my face. All I could do was watch as the other man stalked towards Cole with the taser. Cole shrank back from the man and got another lash from the whip. The man with the taser chose this moment to strike. He shot the two prongs into Cole's chest the pulled the trigger. I watched horrified as Coles body jumped and danced involuntaraly. My tears were hot and full of hatred. I made a silent vow that anyone who touched him would die.

"I don't think this is having the effect we want, let's have some sound." my father said. His voice was a vile thing that viloated my ears.

One of the "goons" plugged in a wire to the television and the sound tore through the room. Coles screams vibrated off the walls and filled the small concrete area. On the screen the man took away the taser for a moment letting Coles screams die away to a pathetic whimpering that made the whole affair sur-real. He recovered and looked at the man with the teaser and started to scream and try to escape as the man shot him high in the shoulder.

I retreated further, dropping my head and watching the whole scene through tears. "You know what tasers do a human body, Maya. To the chest how many more can he take? Two? Four? Ten?" My father's smile was cruel and cold. "After that his heart will stop. Would that make you feel better?" He grasped my chin and ripped my eyes towards his. "Don't worry daughter, I'll keep reviving him until you tell me what you know, after that, death may just be the perfect release."

Tears slid hottly down my cheeks. I was shaking my head back and forth slowly, whimering.

"No, no, no. What have I done?" I whispered to myself. I wasn't a God fearing woman, in fact I didn't really believe in God. But today I would make an exception.

"Dear Lord, please forgive me for what I am about to do." I thought.

"Very well." I bowed my head. I began to mumble gargen under my breath. From the corner of my eye I noticed that father nodded to the other man who came closer. I kept mumbling. He moved over my head and finally to where he might hear. I threw my head back, catching him in the chin and screaming out.

The man toppled backwards and covered his ears. "Face it father you might as well kill him because there is no fucking way I'm telling you shit."

Mel said...

"If that is truely the way you feel daughter," He turned and nodded to the man standing by the door. The man picked up his radio and mumbled something in another language. I saw the man on the TV respond. He looked up at the camera, smiling maniacally. He slowly stalked towards the panting, bleeding Cole.

I saw Cole stiffen as the man said something into his ear. Then a shudder ran through his body. I couldn't watch him get tortured on my behalf. I closed my eyes and wondered at what I had done. I heard a man scream, and felt the sudden hot trail of tears trailing down my cheeks.

Mel said...

"Fuck!"

"How the hell..."

"Get down there. NOW!"

Everyone was running around. I opened my eyes and looked at the screen. Cole was standing in the room with the two guards. One was already down, the other circled cautiously. Cole was crouched in a fighting stance, ready, waiting.

I couldn't fathom what had happened but what has to happen now. In the mists of the confusion I retried my bonds and wiggled in the chair. On the television screen Cole lashed out at the remaining guard as a light flashed over him. The door opening perhaps? A hard hit to the temple made me and the chair fall awkwardly onto the floor. I stared up at my father who was rubbing the back of his hand. "I don't know who he is or where you found him but you are going to pay for him." He nodded over to the other bodyguard who hauled me up and out of the chair and began to drag me out of the room into a large wearhouse. I lashed out kicking and trying to slow them down as I was dragged over the catwalks. Even with all the training and years of combat I was still just a girl and was only so much to the lumbering fridge of a man who dragged me away, following my father.
Far below shots rang out, echoing off the concrete walls and off the ceiling. "Let me go you bastard!" I screamed as I lashed out with a foot. Only to be picked up lie a small child and carried towards the door. I spotted a shadow stop amongst the boxes and crates to look up. Before I was swallowed up in the doorway of the stairs going to the roof.

Below Cole paused and watched in horror that he was too late, they were getting away. He opened the crate he was nearest to and slipped in. Settling down in the packing he opened the stolen gun. Five cases. There was a phone as well. Can he be quiet enough to call out, and even if he did will they be fast enough to catch Maya and her father? With trembling fingers he opened up the cell phone.
